We NEED the B & O ..just like it is!

A bit of real culture in an urban center.  Best CAKES ever!

all across our city development projects are being built that do not reflect the values of our communities. It is a rare project that is designed with any architectural merit or sensitivity to the community it is placed. we have neighborhood boards who while trying to fight new development projects often end up dumbing down the design and we have other projects (number in Ballard and the Central District spring to mind immediately) whose scale and poor design will be a blight upon their neighborhoods for many generations. We, as concerned citizens, must put our foot down everywhere/anywhere we can. There are so few structures remaining in this city with either historical or emotional significance we must work to save what little remains

almost 10 years ago, when we lived on capital hill and were both working there we discovered the b&o.  bobbi jo worked at a corporate office across the street and we lived across the street (then villa majorie, now condos).  we discovered b&o and found that, to us, they have the BEST coffee in seattle!  they take the time to actually make the coffee and the mocha's ahhhhhhhhhh the yummy yummy mocha's! fresh hand whipped cream with fresh grated chocolate ontop.  mmmmmmmmmmmmm!  it cannot be taken away if for nothing else the MOCHA'S.  hee hee  they have sunday brunch, are open into the late late hours for coffee and dessert, they have amazing pastries and one walk into the place you feel like you are in a place among friends, fun, funky friends with TONS of interesting stories.  SAVE THE B&O!

apart from the fact that B&O would be heartbreaking to lose for its wonderful amazing affordable food, warm community feeling atmosphere and most uniquely and consistently mixed up clientelle in capitol hill, if all the buildings are tall, we lose the character AND the sunlight and open feel. I'm all for urban density, but also for moderation and architectural diversity and sunshine that can reach the street level.  We all need to be able to catch a glimpse of the mountains now and again, for our sanity and happiness.

As a Capitol Hill resident who lives about two blocks from B&O, not only do I regularly patronize the restaurant and enjoy its unique atmosphere, but I see dozens of unoccupied retail spaces in the surrounding area. Buildings that have sat empty for months to years should be considered for redevelopment - not historic buildings that house thriving neighborhood spots. Please do not allow this business to be destroyed!

As a person living in a town that fights every day to keep buildings that are historical and architecturally significant from the clutches of money hungry developers, I know first hand the dismay of the community of this neighborhood.  So as a community we must stick together no matter how far across the country we may be! Keep up the good fight!

As a resident of Capitol Hill, it saddens me to see how homogenized the area is becoming with so many similar mixed use buildings that house retail space and condos/apartments. I am also a patron of the B & O and think that its removal would have a significantly negative impact on the neighborhood's economy and visual aestheic.

As a Seattle resident for all of my 25 years, it is inconceivable that the City would continue to allow developers to remove the buildings that hold cultural significance and replace them with generic, incongruent mixed use monoliths.

B & O is a favorite of mine.  I lived in Seattle for ten years and go back every time I visit.  Don't take it away--you will be part of the deconstruction of a beautiful city.

 B & O is the best.

B and O is a wonderful building and business that deserves to stay!  It is unique and is certainly part of what makes Capitol Hill a desirable place.  Save 1650!

 B&O

B&O cannot be torn down - no way!  I have been going there for years on a continuous basis and have introduced it to many, many people.  It is a great cultural part of Seattle and the folks that work there are great -- don't let it go away!!!

B&O can't move!!! It's perfect right where it is!!!

B&O Espresso became a local favorite of mine during the five years I lived in Seattle. I have never had such delicious bread pudding in my life as the rainy night in Emerald City when I cozied up with friends at a table at B&O. I support development in moderation, and understand the need for in-fill and re-purposing buildings. But 1650 East Olive Way is not vacant. It does not need to be re-purposed. Please - understand the value of architectural integrity and the existing fabric of an already vibrant neighborhood.

B&O Espresso is a true Seattle landmark. It is a place where members of the community meet. In a way, it is Capitol Hill's living room, where people read, relax and meet their friends. To lose this Seattle institution would be a real crime.

B&O is a beloved Seattle institution. It would be a great shame to see it be replaced by a generic apartment building.

B&O is a huge part of Seattle's locals scene and feel for the Capitol Hill district. It is one of the places that give Seattle its identity. Please let's choose to preserve this significant landmark and business. I have been going to it for over 15 years.

B&O is such a special place, not only for its amazing coffee and food, but for the unique space that it occupies in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. The restaurant would be severely affected by such a drastic change to its ambiance, and it would be a crime to destroy this amazing building. Don't Do It!

B&O over the years has become and integral part of the city landscape and it would be a shame to change it!

Beautiful building, would be a shame to see it go!

Capitol Hill has a certain character that has been shaped by it's people living, working and visiting here. I'm afraid that by adding condo after condo Capitol Hill will lose it's charm. It's cute or cool little stores won't have a chance to survive as retail space might be expensive. Also, a neighborhood filled with condos just doesn't look good visually. They're usually taller buildings and that just doesn't fit to Capitol Hill. I'm afraid the charming character of the neighborhood will get lost when a whole different crowd starts moving into the condos, possibly because they're intending to move to this cool part of Seattle. Only that this cool part of the city is disappearing. The B'N'O espresso building itself isn't that beautiful in my point of view but it simply has that Capitol Hill flair to it, it's staff has the Capitol Hill look to it, it does has beautiful large windows, and it's eggs Benedict are to die for.

Capitol Hill has always been a fun and charming neighborhood in Seattle.  It is slowly turning into the land of condos and townhouses, and removing something as popular and significant as the B&O furthers this trend of destruction.  Please help save it!!

Capitol Hill is rapidly turning into a clone of the new South Lake Union; a pile of tall concrete boxes with retail on the first floor and apartments or condos on the rest.  This style of architecture, while practical for livable urban density and maximizing profit, is aesthetically repulsive and is steadily destroying the character of Seattle's neighborhoods.  The B&O building in particular is a landmark, the restaurant is a neighborhood fixture with a famous dessert menu, and the prospect of replacing them with another soulless box is both saddening and infuriating.

Capitol Hill once played a huge role in Seattle being one of America's most livable cities. Regrettably, city planners are allowing developers to demolish this city's integrity and character and slap up generic looking, over priced, eye sores, i.e. short term investments. How about renaming Madison Valley to, "Generic-Looking-Over-Priced-Townhouse Valley." Anybody remember Belltown? How about when Freemont was truely alternative and funky?

Designate B&O it a Historical Landmark.

Don't get rid of this building please!!

 Don't take B&O down!!!!

every time i visit seattlle, the b&o is at the top of our list of fun places to go. it would be a crime to tear down this beautiful old building. this is such a charming spot and such a great  place to have coffee and enjoy the neighborhood. PLEASE SAVE THE B&O  thank you

Even us Lynnwood-ites love the B&O!!

For so many residents, this is a capitol hill landmark.  When all of these places are gone, where are even the condo dwellers going to go?  It disgusts and saddens me that a place like B&O would be treated with such carelessness.  This is a business that should stand for another generation.  It is more than just a coffee house.

Glad that someone is resisting the destuction of classic Capitol Hill structures.  Keep up the good work.

Good luck with this. The building is nothing special but you are an important feature in the neighborhood.

 Good Work!  Keep it up!

Great place to eat and hang out with friends!

Help us preserve the character and vibrance of this area. Improvement and updates are great but if they irradicate the past, there will be no semblance of Capital Hill left. There will be nothing left for the new residents to be proud of or even do.

History is important to preserve, buildings are a HUGE part of that.

I absolutely love the B and O and I will do my part to see its walls remain intact.

I agree, this building needs to be protected!

I am distressed that capitol hill is 'losing' all of it's charm that made me want to move here 6 years ago. Please do not 'lose' this building too!  Somehow 'meet me at that new condo building' doesn't have the same ring as 'Meet me at B&O'!!

I am simply a lover of the neighborhood and believe the elimination of the B&O building would be a severe detriment to the area.

I can't imagine the neighborhood without this unique landmark.

I come to Seattle once a month from Idaho and every day I am there while I visit, I stop by B&O.  I would genuinely  hate to see it torn down.  I suggest it as a place of my choice to any friends visiting Seattle as well.  It is by far my favorite restaurant I have visited in that city.  Please leave it right where it is.

I dearly love this building and am a regular at this establishment. Eliminating this building would be a severe loss to this community.

I feel strongly that keeping the existing building at 1650 East Olive Way will benefit the neighborhood greatly for many years to come.  The building reflects the architectural history and character that makes the neighborhood unique and enhances its charm.

I first went to B&0 10 years ago, and still love it!

I grew up in Seattle and have cringed many times over the years when I've read about projects like these. Though a lot had already changed before he was elected, Greg Nichols is the worst Mayor I have ever seen in Seattle and it's clear that he cares little for the folks who are most impacted both physically and fiscally by his hair-brained schemes. Razing this piece of Seattle's history would be just one more example of his philosophically self-serving, under-handed and careless way of doing business and I truly hope this project is stopped cold.

I have been a customer at B&O for 27 years, since I first came to Seattle. I always enjoy spending time there. I understand the need for urban density but not at the expense of stable businesses that are anchors for the neighborhood such as the B&O, not at the expense of beautiful well designed older buildings which are being lost far too rapidly.

I have been a customer for nearly a decade.

I have been a patron of B&O for over 10 years. It is one of my favorite places in Seattle. Locals and tourists alike enjoy it's old world charm and atmosphere. I have many happy memories at B&O Espresso. Please do not tear it down! Preserve Seattle's history!

I have been coming to the B&O for almost all of its life.  I remember as it spread from one storefront to another then another. Sixty-five feet is too tall.  I used to live at Feneuil (sp?) hall and that is only four floors.  We need to keep the older buildings in Seattle. They are part of our heritage.

I have been enjoying the B&O for 20 years.  It is a favorite special place to go when we are in Seattle.  I would hate to see this historical building that has so many fond memoris for me and my family leave us.

I have been going to the B&O since high school in the late 1980's, went to coffee there through college and now take my family there for breakfast.  So much character!

I have dear friends that recently moved back to the Seattle area and they shared their grief over the possible loss of the B & O Espresso.  Please keep their neighborhood original and unique, something everything that comes from Seattle is.  When I come to visit them, I would love to have a Mocha at the B&O!!

I have fond memories of my early years in Seattle, the mid-70's, connected to the B & O.  I was one of the core members of The Women Artists Group (WAG).  We had many meetings at there. It's part of Seattle history and my history.

I have lived in Seattle for 20(!) years now. I moved here after graduating from college in Spokane in 1988.

I have visited the B&O since i was a child.  This is one of my favorite places in seattle, and it would be sad to see another silly condo put up on this block.

 I heart B&O

I hope I can help! I love the B&O! It's a tribute to our city I couldn't stand to loose! I'll be telling friends!

I like the warmth and intimacy of the B&O, not to mention the delicious baked goods, Egyptian Lentil Soup and hot chocolate.  In this age of cookie-cutter coffee shops, the B&O stands out as an artful experience for all the senses.

I lived just down the Street from the B&O for many years. This was go to place for brunch and late night dessert and cocktails. No one makes a better rum ball. I would hate to see them go!

 I LOVE B&O

I love B&O!  I'm getting tired of seeing condo's sprouting up all over the city.  The districts are losing their flavor.  Everything is going to look the same once the developers run out of building sites.

I love going to the B&O and would be distraught if it no longer existed where it currently stands. Building a 65' tall 75 unit apartment complex would be a huge eyesore and Seattle already has plenty of mini apartments with over the top rent! We do not need more of them but we should have more places like the B&O!!!

 I love the B & O - please don't let it go!

I love the B&O - please keep it!!

I love the B&O and it would be a tragic loss.

I love, love, love the people of B & O and  also the community and wonderful atmosphere their business continually provides.  I've been a resident of the neighborhood for 8 years, and ALWAYS bring visiting friends/family, as well as local ones to rendevous at the B&O Espresso.  PLEASE retain this important building and establishment.

I moved to paris last June from my apartment at the Winchester building (built in 1911) on 605 E. Denny. Upon hearing this news I am appalled that this could even be considered as a wise decision. Before leaving the US, Magit (sp) the owner and I had a friendly relationship as well as the staff of B&O. I was forewarned that this destruction might occur, but I honestly didn't think the city of Seattle would go through with it. B&O will always remain a fond place in my heart and last November when I came back to Seattle for a visit I enjoyed another lovely evening in the candlelit B&O bar with the same friends that I had always enjoyed spending my time there with. If someone who has moved halfway across the world is devastated by this proposal I can't even imagine how the older and current residents of Capitol Hill must feel. The last thing that neighborhood needs is more modern apartment buildings. And where would these possible future apartment dwellers go to for the morning café au lait or evening apertif? I suppose the only choice would be Starbucks. How dreadful. The need for more apartment buildings is understandable, but the reason there is a need for more is because people love the quaintness of the Hill. Please, keep B&O alive. From all the way over here in Montmartre in Paris...don't destroy one of my favourite memories of my former home.

I moved to Seattle because of unique, interesting buildings and restaurants like B&O. I'm sad to see Capitol Hill turn into the suburban, uninspired hometown I moved from, with boring restaurant chains and modern buildings that all look the same.

I no longer live on the Hill but have fond memories of hanging out at B & O for brunch or coffee. No more condos!

I oppose the demolition of the building at the corner of Belmont & Olive where the B&O Espresso is located. The existing building should be given historical status. The B&O espresso is one of the last of the older buildings with character in our neighborhood, and contributes to the charm of our city block.

I personally feel that there are far more neighborhood, ecology, and economy friendly ways to create new housing on Capitol Hill than simply building more ostentatious condominiums for people that won't stay in the area for more than five years (the average stay in a condo in Seattle is between three and seven years, courtesy findseattleonline).  Respect tradition, respect small business, and respect the need for ecologically, financially sound housing.  DO NOT DEMOLISH 1650 EAST OLIVE WAY.

I put myself through college by working as the barista at the B&O.  Majed and Jane are so important to me, and I would do anything to help them keep the B&O.

I spent many a productive business breakfast meeting at the B&O.  Amazing food, coffee & ambience.  It has to stay!

I support the statement above.  Please, this city benefits from some of its historic structures!

I support you folks 100%.  We need to preserve way more of our older commercial real estate throughout cenral Seattle, esp. Capitol Hill.  The B&O Building has much character, fits in well with current neighborhood, gives continuity and esthetic charm, historical fit!  Thanks for doing this!

I used to live next door to the B&O when I first moved to the city and they always treated me like family, which made the transition that much easier.  My dog, who was already spoiled rotten, got pieces of bacon "just because."  These people love their neighborhood and community, please let them continue to be a part of it.

I wanted to add that August Wilson wrote his fameous play "The Piano Lesson" on napkins while he sipped americanos at the B&O's upstairs smoking section.  This is a part of history!

I was introduced to the B&O when it first opened in the 70s and treasure it as a unique bakery, restaurant, and meeting place in Seattle.  What a tragedy that we could lose it to another high-rise development just because developers rule at this time in history.  I was able to take my 12 year old grandchild to dessert at the B&O last summer when he was visiting from Vermont and show him the poster of Tristan and Isolde which has been there since the beginning!  (His name is Tristan)  I hope the B&O will be around for him to experience for many years to come.

I would like to see this coffee shop get landmark status Henry fielding

I would love to spread the word on saving this beautiful building.

If we tear down all the places that attract developers to capitol hill in the first place, what do we (the residents) have left to enjoy?

I'm really glad someone took this issue into their hands.  The developers in seattle are ruining the charm and beauty of our city one neighborhood at a time!!! it must stop!!!

I'm so over all the new condo/apartment buildings. The feel of the neighborhood is changing and the old buildings are much more beautiful and charming

I'm so sick of the condos ruining not just the capitol hill community, but the entire city.  It's like the nothing takes over in the never ending story.

I'm tired of seeing these beautiful buildings torn down around the hill. We are letting this neighborhood fall victim to greedy developers, and I want to fight back!

In addition to the charm and distinction that this building and business adds to the neighborhood, a sense of community would be lost if the building was to be redeveloped. Seattle is loosing its community.

It would be a complete shame to see the B&O building go.  I don't necessarily visit Capitol Hill to any extent, except to meet residents who live in Capitol Hill at the B&O.  You take the B&O away, you have eliminated a meaningful meeting point for a few of us friends who get together regularly over some coffee and some great desserts!

It would be a shame to lose this building for the reason planned.

It would be a travesty if the B&O building, one of the few remaining structures left in the neighborhood which offers a sense of shared history and really characterizes the personality of Capitol Hill, was destroyed for yet another soulless "mixed use development."

it would be such a shame to lose a place with so much character....I haven't ever been disappointed with this place and it's classic....don't we have enough condo and apartment buildings?

 It's a fantastic place, don't ruin it.

It's incredibily important that we preserve what little is left of non-corporate America to keep some uniqueness in our country.  If we keep destroying our history & it's architecture we will be stuck with square white buildings on each block of each neighborhood - not a pretty picture.

It's really sad being a relatively new resident of Seattle, always choosing to live in Capitol Hill, and seeing the destruction of the place I chose to move to. It's driving rental prices up, and ruining the reasons I chose to live in this neighborhood. I don't want to be forced into moving out of a place I love so much.

I've been coming to the B&O for 15 years!  Part of it's appeal is the charm of the building - please don't tear it down.

I've been going to B&O Espresso for 10 years now, beginning as a Saturday night activity in high school to grab incredibly delicious desserts.  B&O is so special not only as a restaurant with a great menu, but equally for the building within which it calls home. It is truly one of the most unique restaurants with a beautiful, artistic, French themed interior, one that would be an absolute shame to lose, and could not be easily repeated or replaced. B&O is a fixture in Capitol Hill as an alternate choice to going out to bars or a traditional restaurant, and should be considered a treasure in our neighborhood!

I've been going to the b&o for years. There aren't many places in Seattle like it, and I would hate to see it go.

i've only lived here 7 years but i'm concerned about how much the personality of Cap. Hill has changed. I grew up in Phx. Az. and learned the lesson of what greed and short-sightedness can do to a city.  i don't want to see that happen to this neighborhood.

 KEEP B&O!!!!!!!!!!

 keep the B&O alive!!!

 Keep the B&O building!

Keeping Seattle's neighborhoods unique is important for maintaining the city's character.

 Let's save this sucker!

Losing the B&O Espresso in its current building and constructing another generic highrise would be a loss of charm and livability to the neighborhood and Seattle.

Love the building; love the B&O.

 Love you guys!

my dad first brought me to your shop as a little girl.  ps I loooove your pastries

My friends, family and I have gone to the  B&O Espresso for years and will continue to go there as long as it's here. It would be a tragedy to have it be replaced by some unoriginal, visually distracting and ugly apartment building. Which will add nothing to the culture or heritage of Seattle. Please save the B&O and what it means to so many people.

My good friends and I have been going to the B&O for the past 15 years, and it would be such a shame for this Capitol Hill Landmark to exist no longer.  Please reconsider the land development of this particular building and area.

My now husband and I had our first date at B&O almost 8 years ago. And it was one of the first places his mom and dad frequented when they moved to Seattle 30 years ago. B&O has some of the best desserts in town ... and brunch ... and dinner ... and coffee! Please save B&O!!!

None needed.  My thoughts and feelings on the matter are summarized above.

Not only does B&O have historical, architectural, and cultural significance it also has the best desserts in the city! B&O is a relevant landmark of Capital Hill for residents throughout Seattle. Condos can go somewhere else where they will not destroy, bit by bit, the uniqueness of our city. Seattle is too amazing a place to succumb to high-rent, high priced retail stores and condos! Long live B&O and all the places like it which make Seattle interesting and relevant.

On a visit to Seattle in 1999, I sat in the B&O one evening hearing conversations in five different languages about me, and looked at a wall entirely covered with posters announcing various upcoming local events of all sorts. It was then that I realized, "I could live in this town." I have done so since 2000. The B&O is part of the charm not just of Capitol Hill, but of Seattle.

Once these beautiful buildings are destroyed, and replaced with these cheap, hideously designed quick-money-maker condos, you can never get them back.  Seattle has become a mish-mash of crappy, plastic structures.  There's a reason all of these early 20th century buildings are still standing -- they were built to last, with quality materials and timeless design.  I wish all the people that have moved here could have seen how beautiful the city used to be, before it was disfigured by get-rich-quick developers.  Please help us keep  some sort of historic character to our neighbohoods.

One of the main reasons I moved to Capitol Hill was the B&O Espresso & Glo's!!!  I searched for 3 years to find an apartment within walking distance specifically.  We live in a country where no matter what city you visit, you see the same stores.  B&O is a unique, family- owned business that is part of the Capitol Hill community.  Change can be a good thing, but NOT IN THIS CASE.  What makes the B&O so special is how it feels like you're in another country entirely when you walk through the doors.  This is in the spirit of the building in which it resides.  The B&O is vital to the neighborhood and should be there for generations to come in the future.  It should be a 'permanent fixture' in our 'hood!!!  Please don't make the mistake of changing what is unique about Seattle into a cold, colorless, contemporary strip mall.

Our daughter lives in Seattle, and every time we visit (many times a year), B&O Espresso is one of our 'stops'. We are lovers of history and uniqueness. One of the nice things about Seattle is that it has many unique neighborhoods. Please don't destroy the character of this one by tearing down a landmark. There are not enough of them left in this country.

Please do not build any more condos. Our city is already overdeveloped with too many monolithic structures. It is important to preserve our older buildings and the character of our city!

Please don't destroy one of Capitol Hill's few remaining landmarks!  First Oddfellows Hall, now this!  Ugh!  Progress be damned - this has to stop or everyone (including me) who came to the Hill for it's charm will go elsewhere once it is gone.

Please don't take away the B&O!

Please don't take B&O away from Capitol Hill. This is a landmark restaurant!

Please don't tear down that building!  Save B&0

Please don't throw away the B&O! We need it!

Please don't touch B&O Espresso!  This has been the sight of many a beloved birthday celebration and first date for me.  It's absolutely one of my favorite spots in Seattle; please preserve!!

Please keep the B and O! Too much of beautiful capital hill is being destroyed. Save it!

 Please keep the B&O!

 Please keep the B&O!!

 Please keep the building!!

 Please keep the original building

Please keep the unique only reason we come to Cap Hill weekly around! Don't let Seattle get boring out of greed.

Please leave B&O it is my favorite place to visit when I am in Seattle. Too many other great places have gone under and our cities are losing there charm.

Please let Capitol Hill keep its wonderful personality!

Please preserve the B&O Espresso Building. Without unique local institutions such as B&O, our city will not be a very fun or inspiring place to live.

Please reconsider. I'm tired of watching my neighborhood lose it's integrity.

Please save our beloved B&O. Seattle needs to keep some of its old favorites and the B&O is at the top of the list!

please save the B&0!  preserve our history

Please save the B&O! The last thing Seattle needs is more cookie-cutter condo buildings with, let me guess, a Walgreens or Starbucks, at street level. The B&O is a Seattle staple, it is a place that I take every out-of-state visitor to, just like Pike Place Market!

Please save the building and the best coffee house in Seattle, the B&O!

 Please save this building.

 Please save this special building!

Please stop replacing neighborhood institutions with large condo complexes or townhouses. It's destroying the neighborhood feel.

Please strongly consider this petition.  For the past 3 years since moving to Seattle and the Capitol Hill area, I have seen most everything I enjoy about living here being destroyed to make way for expensive housing that few people seem enthusiastic about.  In the past 6 months, some of my favorite bookstores, restaurants, hair salons, and the like have been wiped out for this cause.  These types of structures are ruining Capitol Hill.  The whole draw of wanting to live in a cool neighborhood with a lot to do will be lost if we allow these overpriced behemoths with little hope of selling in our current economy to continue to shape what our community will look like.  In addition, it will perpetuate the rampant cycle of pushing out lower income residents, giving them fewer housing options.  Let's give some well-overdue considerations to the people who are already residents here, as opposed to the future ones.

 Please!

 Preserve this establishment!

 save b&o

Save B&O Espresso, we love this place!!

 SAVE B&O!

 SAVE IT!

Save old buildings in Seattle or the city will just become one big box.

 save our history!

 Save the B and O!

 Save the B and O!

Save the B&O and please help build sustainable communities that are healthy, and productive.

 Save the B&O!

 Save the B&O!!

 Save the B&O!!!

 save the B&O!!!!!!!!!

Save the B&O, it's the best place to eat in town!!!!!!!!

Seattle is known for its eclectic architecture and spirit, but the city is allowing its unique style to be demolished brick by brick. In just a few years' time, Seattle will be completely void of personality - just another place on the map with one look-a-like building after another. I hope this building and others of its kind are saved before we wake up an realize the old Seattle is gone.

Seems the 'Historical' way out is generally a long shot and really it comes down to money and potential owners. It'd be nice for the people of the community that have the financial means to step in and actually do something for their community, actually would step in and do something for their community--Jeff Bezos, Paul Allen, Bill Gates etc. etc. They talk about what this city has meant to them but consistently they ignore these opportunities to buy these properties and retain them for the cities sake.

stop ruining our skyline! and some of us grew up in seattle and want to enjoy our history. oh, i know, what a sentimental fool, but i'll enjoy my memories as long as you keep your hands off them...

Stop the madness!  This tearing down of landmarks and buildings to make way for vapid nothingness housing has changed the landscape of our city and of Capitol Hill.  What will you have left?!

Stop with the condos, keep the charm

Tearing down the B&0 for yet MORE condos would be an absolute abomination. Seattle's history should always come first before urban development. Please don't sacrifice Seattle's charm any further by going through with this "development"- the costs would far, far outweigh any benefits.

 Thank you for doing this!

Thank you for organizing this critical effort.

Thank you for your work on this. I have been a customer of the B & O for 24 years now. I am a resident of the neighborhood and want them to stay.

That building really does give Olive Street a lot of character and it would be sad to lose it.  Plus, the B&O, in its present form and location, is the oldest espresso establishment in Seattle!

The B & O has signed a 20 year lease in the old Diletante Chocolate space on Broadway. The existing B & O espresso will stay for another 2-3 years (until they tear down the building, if they do. I will sign petition anyway) along with the new cafe on Broadway. The name has not been determined yet. Desserts will be the same, revised menu and possibly  different name.  This is information from the designer. Thanks. Pam

The B&O building is so iconic it's irreplaceable!

The B&O cafe is a landmark that lends to the charm of the area.  Tearing it down would be a loss to the community

The B&O Espresso building is characteristic of the neighborhood I live in.  It is an icon, a symbol of what makes this neighborhood a great place to live.  It has character, history... its absence would mean a departure from everything we (who live in the neighborhood)love about living on Capitol Hill.

The B&O espresso building was one of my favorite hang outs in high school. My best friend and I would drive down from Marysville. I have some great memories there, and hope to continue making more. I would be very sad to see the building go.

The B&O in its present location has been a unique community gathering place for several decades.  A good part of its value is the charm and character of the present location.  Surely we can keep such a beloved business and location.  There is quite enough ugly, soulless new construction in Seattle already.

The B&O is a landmark on Capitol Hill. Please help keep some of what make's Capitol Hill unique in place. CH has character but it is losing it quickly. Please keep the B&O intact.

the B&O is a seattle/capitol hill cornerstone; in a building that can be enjoyed by the public and I hope preserved for decades so all can enjoy for years to come!

The B&O is an institution and seeing it replaced with a bunch of blah condos is going to be a damn shame.

The B&O is an integral part of the cultural integrity of Capitol Hill.  We have enough condominium complexes for all and I would like to see the interesting fabric of the Hill maintained in the B&O.  Thank you for your time!  Jodi

The B&O is so nostalgic for me. I used to write poems sitting in the booth by the window watching Seattlites stroll by. I no longer live in Seattle, but every time I visit I cannot resist the B&O...The best latte, an exquisite eclair, and plenty of ambiance. The B&O must remain for the next generation of poets. Damn the man!

The big developers have too much power.  They are steam-rolling over not only our neighborhoods but also our political bodies such as the City Council as well as subverting the political process to enrich themselves at the expense of our communities.  We must stand up to them and demand high quality, affordable housing, and the preservation of the uniqueness of our communities.  If we don't then a great many of us will be pushed out of Seattle by skyrocketing  monthly rent payments and our neighborhoods will be bland, lifeless, rows of condos and townhouses sapping our communities of their once rich and inspiring identities.

The community does NOT need another mixed-use condo/apartment structure with bland, generic retail on the ground floor. There has been a neighborhood in Northwest Capitol Hill for a lot longer than property rates have been sky high and quite frankly aspects of this neighborhood, such as the B&0 Espresso building and the cafe inside, contribute more to our community than another concrete-based logo-encrusted testimony to the ability of developers to build cookie-cutter condominium complexes practically overnight.

The fact that this building might not be a part of this neighbourhood is really heartbreaking!! Please save it

The last thing Seattle needs is yet another condominium/apartment multi-plex. The 1650 building adds charm, character, and a dash of historic beauty that no cut & paste condo would able to replicate.

The reason I live in Capitol Hill is because of the historic and eclectic business and community.  If this is replaced with condos, Capitol Hill will lose its appeal and residents.

The reasons why people are even interested in moving to the area are being knocked down by companies like YOU...

The unique core and identity of Capitol Hill is being destroyed because developers have so much power, and the city has so few zoning criteria that address preserving the integrity and character of our neighborhoods. We’ve seen this on any number of streets on the hill, and of significant note at Oddfellows Hall on Pine, where numerous arts organizations are threatened because the building was sold, and rents subsequently skyrocketed. We need to work at preserving the history and charm of our communities. San Francisco didn’t demolish of all their history in favor of the deep pockets of developers that knock out bland cookie-cutter buildings, transforming a neighborhood from unique and charming to something resembling the soul of a suburban strip mall.  We shouldn’t either.

The unique proposition that Seattle offers is slowly eroding--one building at a time.  Capitol Hill has especially seen this along Pike/Pine, west of Broadway.  This B&O Espresso building is small, yet a piece of our history and this should not be displaced by a modern "mixed-use" designs.

there are no words. we are losing our seattle soul.

There are reasons Seattle is such a culturally fulfilling place to live. This building and surrounding neighborhood are  some of them. Capitalism manipulates us into valuing the profitable, the sterile, the soulless, the inhuman, and the boring. I am glad people have come to together here to preserve something truly valuable.

There are too many misguided redevelopment efforts going on.  Capitol Hill will soon lose the characteristics that give it it's appeal and identity if this continues.

These types of establishments are important in keeping the integrity of our community's culture.

This building embodies the spirit of Capitol Hill! Another unique building that makes Seattle stand out from other cities, houses great coffee, spirit, and art. A great palce to meet people, have good conversation, and feel proud to be from Seattle! This building cannot be torn down!!!!!!!!

This building has so much charm; it would be shame to ruin it.

This building has such character and charm. It would be a shame to tear it down and replace it.

This building is vital to this neighborhood's culture. Please don't develop it

This gentrification is killing the uniqueness of Capitol Hill.

This is a classy establishment which defines the culture of capitol hill. If you're going to make that ugly Denny's in ballard into a landmark, why not do the same thing for this building/establishment?

This is an important building that helps make Capitol Hill what it is today.

This is my favorite place to take friends and family when they visit our city and my favorite place to spend a quiet Sunday morning with a coffee and breakfast.  I would be really sad to see it go away.

This kind of building is what *makes* Capitol Hill. I live in a historic neighborhood and have watched 34 1.5 million dollar condos go up right next door.  I understand the need for density, but please, not with this building.  It's a charmer, and it needs to stay.

This neighborhood (Capitol Hill) needs to preserve some of its existing single-storey and low-storey spaces, particularly those that serve as a cultural anchor to the area, as this building does. While growth is inevitable, the number of apartment units & "mixed use" spaces to become available on Capitol Hill over the next 1-2 years is alarming, considering the parking issues already being experienced. The City so far has done a poor job of infrastructure maintenance and planning; this would just add fuel to the fire.

This neighborhood is getting ruined.  High density is great, bladerunner style mondo condo android makeover is NOT!

This place is a tourist attraction, I want it to be there next time I'm in Seattle.

This place is where I used to spend my afternoons, just having moved to Seattle, reading and meeting lovely neighborhood boys. I don't want to see it go!

To the builder.  Find a vacant lot to build your building.

To the comments above I add that the need to presererve the B&O building is really a need to preserve the charm of Seattle as a both a national leading city that can temper new development with the preservation of the very character that draws people to this community for it richness in choice.

To Whom Is Interested In Destroying Yet Another Cool Place To Enjoy Life In Seattle

To Whom It May Concern,  It is important to maintain and honor history in our unique neighborhoods, such as, Capitol Hill. It is this charm, when nurtured and cultivated, that keeps locals and tourists, visiting our lovely city, enchanted and engaged. We must protect this building and think creatively about how to incorporate measured and thoughtful growth in our high-density neighborhoods!

Used to live right down the street.  This is a real gem in my mind.  Whenever I had out of town guests we would stop in for dessert and a drink.

Victorian houses are not a crime!

Was at the B&O coffee shop for the 1st time Wednesday June 27, 2008. the building has character and beauty.  It would be a shame to lose it to a modern, generic replacement.  good luck.

We cannot allow developers to continue to destroy these historical buildings for profit.

We have enough mixed-use in the area, please help keep the B&O building as it is.

We love B & O building!  We visit everytime we come to Seattle.  I hope that it will be there when we are in the area.

We love B&O.  It would be missed!

We love brunch at the B&O! Good luck.

We need community rooted in our own past.  Let's not destroy capitol hill with Generic corporate hollowness.

We need to keep our unique buildings in this concrete jungle of now high priced condoes in our lovely city.

We need to preserve our historic heritage. Please consider this carefully. Thank you.

we need to quit tearing down our history, our culture, our home.

We need to save the B&O! It's a cultural landmark, an institution! I've been going there for about 20 years, sometimes more frequently than others, but it's a place I think of as "home" when it comes to breakfast and coffee!

We visit Seattle friends at least once a year and the B&O is always at the top of our list of places to eat - and we try to do it at least 2 or 3 times each visit.  Please please do not even consider tearing down this wonderful old building.  Seattle is already overrun with new structures, keep some of your history and this wonderful eatery!!  Thank you.

We want the B and 0 to stay. We had our first date here and eventually got married.

What are you thinking?????  DO NOT kill this landmark business of Capital Hill!

What is the point of moving to a neighborhood if the reasons for moving there keep moving out?

When there are few things left of beauty and charm, one must stand to protect the remainder.

While I am not presently a Seattle resident, my daughter is, and every time I visit, I go to the B&O.  Establishments of this sort are the essence of neighborhood character and uniqueness; they cannot be replaced once gone.

While I do not live in Seattle, B&O is a historical meeting place when I am in town. It is important to me and my daughters as an anchor point of any visit to Seattle to see them.

Without those businesses and landmarks that defines the neighborhood, why would anyone want to move to our neighborhood? What's the point of tearing them down and building new apartments/condos???

yeah save the B&O and bring back the smoking section too!

I can not imagin Olive Way without B&O. B&O is not just a cafe. It makes

Capitol Hill.

I moved to Seattle in 95, and B&O has been my favorite place to go. They might say

B&O could be in the new building, but it wouldn't be the same.

Metropolital Cafe was opened recently across the street from B&O. I have been there.

They looked nice inside, but it doesn't seems to have enough characters. I think

it's because it's burried in another tall new building.

We have to keep B&O as it is. We should save one story buildings in Seattle. I don't

want Capitol Hill to be the second Fremont or University Avenue. They look all same.

New buildings, new stores, new restaurants, or new cafes. They are getting so

generic.

If we can't keep B&O and the building, we'll lose the charms and magic of the hill.

Do we really want the city that looks just like Santa Monica or Denver or Tokyo?

I read a blog somebody who supports this development wrote that other cities like

Barcelona succeeded to mix new and tall buildings in the city. Yes, they have tall

buildings, but they conserve old buildings as well. Toronto seems in that way, too.

Demolishing old building is missing the point.

There are so many unused lands on the hill like the old QFC or Safeway on Broadway.

The Chang's and old Kinko's on the Broaway seem to be empty for years. Why don't we

do something about it, rather than destroying existing attractive old buildings?

There are so many apartment/condo buildings with vacancies. Do we really need to

have more empty apartments?

I always love Capitol Hill. It was love at the first sight. I can't bear to watch it

losing its charms.

Seattle does not need one bigger ugly box. I am tired of a few people who make

lots of money building there mix use, quick fix ,no sense of design money machines.

We need to remove these people and turn them into cat food! In that way  they can

make a true contribution to society. These new buildings only add to parking

headaches increased cost of living and the spread of Subways and MacDonald’s and

shitty little boxes so that rats can live! Send this developer to Iraq! I would love

to help turn this clown into meow meow mix! The greedy should be the first into the

cat box!

The statement above reflects my sentiments exactly, I would hate to see such a

beautiful building from a bygone age lost from my neighborhood.

This neighborhood is slowly going down hill with new apartments and condos

going in that have no personality and are cookie cutter ugly.  Thank you for taking

the time to institute this web site and initiative.

The B&O is an important part of our neighborhood. I also live in the building

next door and will be unfortunately displaced by this development. The proposed

design will be an eye sore to the corner and will drive out any potential for small

businesses to return o the corner. Please, let's stop the developer from taking away

more from our vibrant neighborhood!

Please keep the B and O just as they are.

Save the B&O! I'm opposed to this form of development.

The B&O is a neighborhood institution and should not be torn down and replaced

with more "cookie cutter" condos.  We need to preserve locally owned businesses that

help to give Capital Hill it's unique character.  We do not want to become the new

Bellevue

Please preserve the Belmont and Olive Block.  There's enough brand new condos

in the neighborhood and without the B&O, it would be bland.

Please preserve our important neighborhood buildings!

 Save the B&O!

I have sent a letter to Mr. Rips.  I will do what I can to help save this

important part of Capitol Hill.

I have had enough of my favorite local places sold out and bulldozed. Let's

preserve what is left of the soul of capital hill.

If nothing can be done to save my view, PLEASE at least find a way to incorporate the incredibly charming building into the new structure. I have enjoyed a panoramic view of the water and downtown for 15 years. I am about to lose that, and a place of great memories, the B & O cafe, one of Seattle's treasures, if this building is built as promised. This totally sucks. Our beautiful city, the city of my birth, is becoming soulless, ugly, commercial, slick, dull. This is not neccessary, just unimaginitive, with greed the bottom line. A tragedy, but one that could be averted in this case.

Please let some of the essence of Capitol Hill survive this condo explosion. The B&O is a staple of the neighborhood.

B&O Espresso is a landmark and we need to keep the original charm of capitol hill intact.

 KEEP B&O!!!

 We love B&O

I dont think ANOTHER apartment or condo building with retail below is needed in this neighborhood. It is becoming over saturated with this type of construction. I believe that as a city our communities need to grow and provide housing but we also need to maintain balance and preserve historic buildings. Especially those that are still provinding services the community needs.

Replacing this building with something larger and more sterile (as in that it has no past) is a bad idea on a massive scale.

I just moved to Seattle last August. I'm from Eugene, Oregon which is famous for it's preservation of old buildings and family owned stores. It brings character, tradition, and culture to a town. I live directly across the stree from the B&O and am lucky to be able to walk a few step and be treated to a wonderful meal with wonderful people in a wonderful atmosphere. I love my neighborhood, but part of that reason is because of the B&O and the livelyness it brings to our street.

We do NOT need another crappy condo in this area!  Aren't  the "belmont Lofts" enough?

 B&O is the best!

Let's try and save Seattle. Why not build around the B&O......

 Save this amazing building!

I live in one of the apartments that would be demolished in this project.  The culture we all participate in here is pure Seattle.  It would be a shame to lose this landmark coffee shop, and displace all of the awesome people that live next

Why do we need another apt. building on capital hill there is enough already. It make me feel as if Seattle doesn't care about its history or sense of neighborhoods. They have already turned the old Safeway on Broadway, Thumpers on Madison, QFC on Broadway, and I believe that CC.Attle and Mensroom maybe next for the developers wreaking balls. Does   Capital Hill want to lose all it sense of self. Or become into another downtown. And damm the developers that want to change anything with out an open dicussion.

 Don't Do It!!!!

 Save the B&O!

Please save our neighborhood cafe and the unique building!

Here is one other poetic reference as to how I feel about gentrification on Capital

Hill

http://allpoetry.com/poem/3527744

I swear to God if they tear down the B&O my friends and I will rape the new building with beautiful graffiti.

I have only been to the B&O once but the lifelong resident who took me there has grown up going to this beautiful restaurant so I want to help her & Capitol Hill save this precious commodity.

My boyfriend and I have been coming here for little over a year and I can't imagine The Hill without this hotspot for dessert and good company. We plan on moving downtown ourselves but DO NOT agree with the over development of condos. It's too much! Seattle is developing too fast and too many good places are dissapearing, unable to reestablish themselves in a community being taken over by condos. We can help your cause by creating awareness posters (we are both artists by trade) . Please let us know. We sincerely hope B&O can be preserved.

I think that what you are doing is wonderful to try and preserve this and other buildings around down town Seattle!

The B&O atmosphere casts a remarkable elegance and casual romantic mood that is not just unique, but, one of a kind for a coffee cafe in Seattle. The charming style is also infused in the menu, both savories and sweets are delectible. My partner and I often find the B&O to be our local romantic destination for special occassions. The B&O must stand!

My wife and I have been going to the B&O for nearly 15 years, nearly monthly.  We are always welcomed by Majid and his staff and keep coming back for the unique atmosphere and to support local small businesses.

This is an incredible establishment and one of the places I love most in Seattle. It would be nothing short of a crime to shut it down.

 Please stop destroying Cap Hill!

I used to live on Belmont exactly one block away from the B&O back when there used to be a little deli on bottom floor, then they remodeled to a smoking/no smoking section.

I went there almost everyday...americano and pie.  I've met friends there, new and old.  I met girlfriends there, studied there, laughed there (probably cried too). I've spent long summer evenings sipping smooth lattes watching the sky change colors.  I remember keeping warm by supping on a hearty soup there when Seattle was under a foot snow and I had no intention of braving the cold anytime soon.

I no longer live in Seattle however anytime I visit I stop in and have a cup.  I always run into someone i know.

How many more apartment buildings need to go up only to be 1/2 empty  as other building are going up down the street?  Change is inevitable yet some things should be preserved as historical landmarks in our very unique neighborhoods.  The B&O surely is one of these landmarks.

Long before I started going there the B&O had a long list of regulars.  If we allow these special buildings to be demolished in the path of new (and more often than not, very unremarkable and dull) structures, then where will it stop?  Will one day a land developer say "...and after the Space Needle comes down, we're going to put up a 100 unit apartment building with a Starbucks and a Subway sandwich shop on it's ground floor..."?

Some of you may remember when Starbucks had only one location and that it was a unique little shop...but now it has grown so far out of control (Starbucks across the street from one another) that it's disappointing and disgusting to see one every block.

To me, this is similiar to what is happening with our historical landmarks in our unique neighborhoods; the useless replacement of our history with generic, middle of road.  Sadly, in 10 years the 'new' building that is to be put up will either look dilapidated due to neglect or worse, torn down to make room for a bigger building. I will continue to go the B&O for as long as I'm alive and it's still there.  New generations of patrons will take our place and keep the spirit of this lovely café alive and well.

without these historical landmarks, capitol hill will cease to be unique and leave its current residents with no where else to go.

B & O is  a great place and an important part of Seattle's character. It was great in the 80's and its great now.

I am strongly in favor of preserving the building that houses B & O Espresso, and landmark establishment, much beloved in this neighborhood.

No. No, no, no. Please just don't. This cafe is a Seattle landmark -- if not a commercial ultra-success, it's a cultural landmark, and one of the few remaining as such in the U District. Like, or beyond, the Blue Moon, it stands as part of Seattle's historic culture. Please don't consider removing this vivid, internal organ of Seattle's beating

heart. Respectfully and optimistically submitted

The unique and historic flavor of Capitol Hill, indeed most of downtown Seattle and its neigborhoods, is disappearing. We need to retain at least a small portion of our city's historic structures, before they are all gone.

Preserve the B & O, and promote CHOICE!!

Enough condos already!!!!!!!!!!

As a newer resident of Seattle coffee houses like the B  & O add a distinctive quality of life.  It's a great option other than Starbucks or more condos.  Maybe we need a moratorium on condos and cookie cutter coffee shops.

SAVE THE B & O!!!

That’s a pretty funny website you have.

While I'm all for keeping the neighborhoods neighborly, and hate the kind of project planned for the site; it appears that there is one big issue to overcome to save the site.  The building is not even close to having anything architecturally or culturally unique and significant.  It's a cool neighborhood hang.  Period.  Therefore, why should we force a land owner to keep a building that is not architecturally or culturally unique and significant? Let’s save the fights for worthwhile causes.

Whenever I'm in Seattle, I love stopping at the B & O.  Please don't tear it

down!!!

It would be a sad thing, indeed to see the B&O Espresso close down.  It has been an important and unique part of the Capitol Hill neighborhood for as long as I've lived in the Seattle area.  It is one of the places that I can point to as quintessentially Seattle.

While, I realize that cities do grow and change and I am not opposed to all changes, I do believe we have to have a sense of balance between the old and the new.  Let's honor the past by preserving these wonderful buildings that help give the neighborhood its character.

Leave the B&O alone. Seattle needs to preserve its history!

I'm really getting tired of the relentless, characterless high density development that is ruining the character of Seattle's neighborhoods – character that was what once drew people to them.  Our city is slowly but surely being turned in homogenous condo-land, "all made out of ticky -tacky and they all look just the same" to quote Pete Seeger.  Please stop.  Don't destroy our city!

Enter your comments, questions, suggestions here. The B & O has played an integral part in my life, over the last 20 years. I would be greatly saddened by the loss of this business and the building itself. Please keep

me posted as to what we can do next. Thank you for what you are doing to save this part of our local history.

This makes me cry so so hard. I really hope this building can be saved and I will pray with all my heart that it does. Could we sue due to emotional distress that this demolition would cause all of Seattle??

This building has been part of my life for over 20 years.  The B & O café housed in it was an important part of Capital Hill's history.  Please, do not destroy another piece of Seattle's charm for an apt. complex that couldbe put

anywhere.  Thank you...

I've been frequenting B&O since i went to college at Seattle University. B&O is an integral part of the Capitol Hill neightborhood. We must preserve this café and help capitol hill keep its culture and charm. new construction condnos and retail space is unrooting one of the few culturual centers in this city.

I started going to B & O when I was 16.  It was one of very few places a person under the age of 21 could go to socialize with others his or her age.  I continued going long after.  It is part of my history and part of Seattle's history.

I wish I had the time to help more.  Thank you for making this petition available.  I feel strongly about preserving architecture, such as the B&O Coffee building, that gives Seattle the character that makes it what it is.

 Save the B&O building!

 SAVE B&O! STOP GREEDY DEVELOPERS!

Capitol Hill is losing its culture one piece at a time through irresponsible development practices. As a member of the design community I think it is disgraceful that preservation does not seem to be taken into consideration in most of the new housing projects going up. I challenge those involved in such projects to consider incorporation of the old, quirky and culturally definitive in future projects. If done succesfully the blend would make for more viable, apropriate and successful buildings.

Where will all the new condo dwellers eat and drink if all the restaurants and

bars are turned into condos?

There are enough tall ugly buildings in Seattle.  We must preserve the places that add quality to life!  The B&O adds quality and history!

I have been going to the B&O since I moved to Seattle in 1991. It wonderful because the owners create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone. Their menu invites all from it's cost conscious breakfasts and lunches to high tea on the weekends. It's also one of the last places in Seattle to go for a terrific brunch without having to wait for 30 minutes in the cold for a seat. Please save this community institution which helps everyone feel like part of the neighborhood.

I am strongly averse to this kind of development in capitol hill. I think that the short-sighted mass of tacky condo and apartment buildings replacing cultural and architecturally significant places is mindless and greedy. And I think a lot of people feel the same way.

I go to the B & O at least once a week and don't want to see this historic piece of Seattle go. It just won't be the same...at all.

I think there are enough APT BUILDINGS in the area. Our neighbourhood needs instead to keep its charming old fashion buldings to show the world our unique places where to have a great time.

Thanks for your work. I've sent this link to many of my neighbors. Please keep me posted.

Please do not build a development where this charming coffee shop is located!

In addition, there is already enough density and TOO MUCH TRAFFIC on that part of Capitol Hill. Besides, the B&O Cafe is a neighborhood landmark. Please deny the building permit.

If you must build up this corner, spend the money to incorporate the current structure into the planned development.  It can be done.

Many wonderful spaces are being destroyed with so many new buildings springing up.  I strongly urge you to not change what we love about the neighborhood, but respect and preserve what those who live in it have cherished as part of their community for so long. Community is something we all need in our lives, something

that's often difficult to find. By destroying the buildings that house the businesses of the community, you work to break down community.

We really need to save what there is left of real Seattle culture.  Past 10 years have been horrible to this integrity.  Seattle is slowly becoming a town which is no longer "my town".

I live in Greenwood which is in danger of giving way to new development without regard to history or character of the neighborhood. So, I support the efforts of my Capitol Hill neighbors. If one needs evidence of what happens to a retail area when corporate advancement is the sole agenda, one need look no further than South Center, Federal Way, or Lynnwood. In those areas, corporate chain retailers either dominate or have

established complete monoculture of that sort of business.

I've been going to the B&O since I was a kid.  It has a lot of historical

significance for my friends and family.  I would hate to see the character of the

building change.

 Please save B&O!!!!!

 Save B&O!

 Do not do this.

Don't tear down buildings and business that have made this neighborhood what

it is!

Being new to Seattle, B&O has become the social hub of my new life here, I do

not want to find a new local cafe, and non could compete with the unique and

historic quirkiness of B&O.

Demolition of the units that house B&O would be a true detriment to the identity, history and cultural geography of the area.

Please preserve the B&O, and neighboring buildings.

I've been a resident of Seattle for fifteen years and have watched the personality of the Capitol Hill neighborhood change with the proliferation of new developments. While I'm not against development, I believe that the charm and character of the Hill will be swept away if every old building is razed to make way

for progress. Save this building!

Seattle does not need to sacrifice the charming, unique B&O Espresso for one more impersonal condo development. Change for the sake of conformity is NOT progress.

The b&o is a landmark and is a necessary component in my neighborhood.

Save B&O from greed and stupity!

We're sick of watching condos spring up where culture once stood. I do not

want to live in a Seattle overwhelmed by greed and tastelessness.

 Save The B & O!!!!!!!

Capitol Hill will no longer be Capitol Hill without the original intact B&O

Espresso.  It is definitely a historical landmark and needs to be left alone!

Save The Hill!!

Please save the original B & O Building!

Sve the building and the B&O!  Let me know what you require to volunteer 'n

I'll consider it. K

We don't need to have extra residential areas.  Parking is difficult as is.

I have been frequenting B&O Cafe since college in the late 90's and I always

get their eclair and french press coffee.  When my friends who are now far away

visit Seattle, B&O is a "must stop" spot.  Our hearts will break if they were shut

down!

Please don't tear down the B&O building on 1650 East Olive Way!!!!

B&O is a legendary place for many people, with lots of memories...

Please keep B&O in its place...

 save the b&o!

Capitol Hill is an up an established neighborhood that offers a cultural area

unlike anywhere else in the city.  Removing a land mark like this building will

homogenize the area and deplete the local character.

If that eye-sore of a Denny's can get historical status, why can't this

fixture of the community get the same respect?

I LOVE the B & O!!! Best Tiramisu in Seattle!!

I LOVE B&O! ANYONE CAN FIND A HOME AT ANOTHER CONDO. WHERE ARE WE GOING TO GO

TO MEET UP WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY OVER GREAT FOOD & DRINKS THAT ARENT SERVED LIKE

B&O? ITS ONE OF KIND W SOO MUCH MEMORIES

When Seattle loses its historic buildings, it loses its character and soul.

Why are we unable to learn from the mistakes of other cities who have sold their

history and heritage at such a price?  If unable to lead, then we should follow the

lead of cities with the long view such as Portland, OR.

Stop changing the neighborhood for the worse.

The Capitol Hill culture does not lie in condos and high rises, but rather in

the wealth of delicious restaraunts, shops, and the quaint buildings they reside in.

The building at 1650 E. Olive Way epitomizes this culture and should remain in its

current form.

This community thrives because of its character and history. The issue is not

simply whether or not to replace a building with a new one, but rather is it worth

sacrificing that which makes this neighborhood so distinct and attractive.

Some things are worth protecting for the community to share and thrive with. The

building at

1650 East Olive Way is such a place.

 Keep B&O!!!

This is an outrage! Get rid of the Starbucks

Condos everywhere will destroy the reason that people want to live on Capitol

Hill in the first place. WE ARE NOT FOR SALE.

one of the cutest places i have ever seen, capitol hill needs more places like

this one.

please don't get rid of it!

This is a Seattle landmark! I couldn't live without their lemon chiffon cake!

Let's not completely loose our minds and demolish everything in our path, just

because we can.

Alright, so I agree that more living spaces are a good thing, and there are

good places for them all over Seattle, but this is NOT one. Tear down a parking lot

or an abandoned warehouse, not a favorite place of capitol hill.

This building is an important part of this neighborhood and a well known and

beloved land mark for seattlites- DO NOT GET RID OF IT! B& O is important to me!

B&O is one of the first restaurants i discovered in seattle and would be a

huge loss.  who wants just another 65' apartment building when you can have egyptian

lentil soup and creme brulee instead!?

save the local shops! stop the condos!

Stop the gentrification of Capitol Hill! All of the development and transition

to high-end condos pushes prices up and makes Capitol Hill uninhabitable for low

income people. Soon it will be only rich straight and a few queer people, and the

neighborhood will be fundamentally changed.

 B & O can't go!

At this rate, all of Broadway's charm and character will be demolished in just

a few years!!!! We can't let this building go!

This can't happen.  That's all there is to it.  There are too many condo's

buying out local businesses, and B&O is not only a fantastic reseraunt, but a

community gathering center.  This is absurd.

Don't close it! We love it!

Seattle University students support B&O Espresso!

I love B&O!  Condos are taking over Capitol Hill!  Where are we going to live,

pretty soon?!  The Hill will never be the same if you take all the beautiful and

original apartment/retail buildings and replace them with high rise condos!  EW!

Please, leave the charm, it's what makes Capitol Hill a wonderful place to live and

spend time.

I've been going to B&O for over 6 years! I love it so!

 Don't close it.

Mainstays like B&O bring people to the Hill. Please keep B&O for the integrity

of the community and the culture of Capitol Hill.

 Please respect our coffee heritage.

We need no more condos.

Condo conversion in this city is becoming an alarming trend, destroying the buildings that give Seattle and Capitol Hill their unique "flavor" and history. They also pay no heed to the renters that are forced out of their homes, given little compensation to help them move, and little time to find new housing. If Seattle wants to really commit to it's "10 Year Plan to End Homelessness" and preserve its beautiful history and identity, city officials will vote against this conversion at 1650 East Olive Way.
